Project Arcane
Overview
For sometime now I've wanted to build an arcade cabinet mainly cause i miss playing the old games like AVP, SVC chaos, Battle Toads. In order to motivate myself to put the immense amount of time and money into to this project i chose to do it as my senior project for College. This projects original purpose was retro gaming. Retro may not be all that it covers seeing as how it will have NES, SNES, PSX, PS2, Sega Geneses, Saturn, and maybe even Dream Cast games. The possibilities are really endless at this point when i started the project my original plan or main focus was to run arcade games. But after i discovered Game Ex a whole new plethora of possibilities were at my disposal.
Game Ex
Is not only glamorous as a front end it is entirely customizable. The only really catch is that you have to know the line command or console controls for the programs to start them full screen and what not. But i really don't see how that could be avoided and it works out rather nicely. Despite having to donate $30 its well worth it. Game Ex also provides a jukebox feature with Internet radio and album cover lookup. It would also be great for a home theater system or just a jukebox.
Desgining
Seems to be the most demanding part of this project mainly because I had to design the whole thing control panel cabinet you name it. Its definitely been a learning experience and will break you of that just do it attitude I learned early on that i had no idea the amount of work that I was getting into.
